The Incredible Journey of Transformation
Blatey and Agnes's story captures a powerful journey of resilience, compassion, and hope. Their story reflects the struggles faced during the Liberian civil war and the incredible transformation that followed. Their dedication to helping children in need is inspiring and shows how individuals can make a significant impact even from difficult and challenging beginnings.
Every great endeavor begins with a small seed of hope. The journey of Blatey A. V. Williams and Agnes J. Hine started on December 25, 1990, when civil war erupted in Liberia. As violence escalated, countless Liberians fled to neighboring countries like Ivory Coast, Guinea, and Sierra Leone. Some sought refuge even further afield in Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria.
Blatey’s family escaped to Grabo, a town in Ivory Coast. Life as a refugee was incredibly challenging, especially since Ivory Coast was a Francophone country, and after four difficult years, Blatey made the difficult decision to move to the Buduburam Refugee Camp in Ghana.
In 1998, as the war intensified, Agnes fled from Liberia to Geklo in Ivory Coast. After several years in a refugee camp, she also decided to join the Buduburam Refugee Camp in Ghana. It was there, in 2004, that Blatey and Agnes met. Sharing a background of suffering and a commitment to ministry, they found solace and understanding in each other.
On March 26, 2005, they married in the refugee camp, united by their compassion for the children around them who faced similar hardships. Driven by their shared experiences, Blatey and Agnes established schools and a child sponsorship program, beginning their mission in the camp before returning to Liberia.
On February 14, 2006, they returned to Liberia, founding Christ Resurrection Ministries and the child sponsorship program called Love World Missions. With the support of well-wishers, they built a church school in the Greed Hill community of Kakata, Margibi County, which opened on February 15, 2014, with 75 students.
Through their unwavering dedication, Blatey and Agnes have educated hundreds of students, with over five hundred graduating from their school. Today, they continue to support around a thousand students in Liberia, providing them with the hope and opportunities they deserve.
